Conservation Engineer
National Museums of Scotland.

The important collections of agricultural and country life material
held by the NMS are being prepared for Kittochside, the new Museum
of Scottish Country Life due to open in 2001.  This preparation
involves the conservation and restoration work of a wide range of
objects which have been kept in storage for many years.  We require
a Conservation Engineer to assist the permanent staff of the
Department of Conservation and Analytical Research in undertaking
this task.

Candidates for this post, which will be based in the Engineering
Conservation Section of the department at NMS Centre at West Granton
Road, Edinburgh, should have an engineering or technical background
with formal qualifications and/or time served experience, preferably
with an interest or experience in conservation and restoration work
of small industrial, agricultural or working life objects.

All candidates must have a high level of practical ability and
motivation, be able to maintain good quality of work to deadlines
and be able to estimate, record and document work undertaken.  The
post will be an important member of a small specialist group.  Good
communication and team spirit are essential attributes.  Candidates
should have a driving licence.

The contract is for an initial period of six months which may be
extended for a similar period.  While the work is based at Granton,
some may be undertaken at any other of the museum sites in or near
Edinburgh.

The post will be funded at a salary of c#12,000.00 pa depending on
skills and experience.
