Annual stipend of UKP9,956.00 with UKP1,500.00 study/travel
allowance

Historic Scotland, through the Scottish Conservation Bureau, invites
applications for 6 internships.   The Bureau's internship programme
has been developed over 14 years, with the aim of increasing the
fund of conservation skills in Scotland, and provides recent
conservation graduates with experience of extensive practical work
supervised by established conservators.

Internship in Paper Conservation

    A one-year internship is offered in the conservation of
    paper-based collections, based at the Conservation Unit of the
    University of Dundee. The rich variety of work (works of art on
    paper, archives, books) from clients all over Scotland allows
    considerable opportunity for the successful candidate to pursue
    their special interest, with overall supervision by the Chief
    Conservator, Ylva Player-Dahnsjo.

Internship in Textile Conservation

    A one-year internship is offered in textile conservation based
    in the Department of Conservation and Analytical Research at the
    National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh.   Textile Conservator
    Lynn McClean will supervise the successful candidate.   The
    intern will carry out practical conservation treatments on a
    range of objects for temporary exhibition, and will gain
    experience of object installation.    There will also be the
    opportunity to carry out exhibition and gallery surveys.

Internship in Furniture Conservation

    A one-year internship is offered in the conservation of
    furniture based at Granton Centre,l in the Department of
    Conservation and Analytical Research, at the National Museums of
    Scotland, Edinburgh.    Furniture Conservator Sarah Gerrish will
    supervise the successful candidate who will undertake surveying
    and conservation of furniture and wooden artefacts for specific
    projects, loans and displays.

Internship in Conservation of Structural Paintings

    A one-year internship is offered in the conservation of
    structural (wall/ceiling) paintings, hosted by the National
    Trust for Scotland and based at Historic Scotland's Conservation
    Centre at South Gyle, Edinburgh.    The internship will be
    supervised by HSCC's Structural Paintings Conservator, Fiona
    Allardyce, with the support of the NTS Conservator, Wilma
    Bouwmeester.    The intern will research, analyse and treat
    painted ceilings and interiors and will also gain preventive
    conservation experience in NTS properties.

Internship in Conservation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh Interiors

    A one-year internship is offered in the conservation of
    decorated architectural woodwork, based in Glasgow at workshops
    managed by Glasgow Museums. The intern will work under the
    supervision of Senior Conservator, Graeme Cannon, and Furniture
    Conservator, Andrew Stone. The work will involve the
    conservation/examination of wood, painted surfaces and glass, as
    well as restoration using traditional materials.

Internship in Conservation of Ethnographic and Archaeological
Artefacts

    A one-year internship is offered in the conservation of
    ethnographic and archaeological material, based in the
    recently-refurbished conservation laboratory at Marischal
    Museum, University of Aberdeen.   The intern will work under the
    supervision of the Museum's Senior Curator (Conservation),
    Margot Wright, on a wide variety of artefacts and will gain
    experience in the treatment of composite archaeological and
    historic objects, care of collections and preparation of
    artefacts for display.

Applicants must recently have completed a relevant recognised
conservation training course;  a further key factor in the selection
process is the applicant's commitment to working in Scotland

Interview for short-listed applicants will be held between 3 and 10
July.

Applicants must apply by letter to the address below enclosing a
Curriculum Vitae with the names and addresses of two professional
referees;  applicants are also asked to provide a 200-300 word
statement of their interest in an Historic Scotland internship.
