Animal mummification

I am currently carrying out a condition survey (as a dissertation)
on mummified animal remains. A distinct white bloom and mould is
present on areas of exposed skin and dark stained pieces of
embrittled linen. In addition research into methods of animal
mummification seem to be scarce, other than to say they were
offerings to the pertinent gods. Could any members shed any light on
these queries?
