Subject: Course on pigments and painting technology
The Painters Palette in the 16th and 17th Century: Pigment Preparation and Painting Technology Maastricht, the Netherlands 13-20 July 2000, An initiative of The Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University in association with the Conservation Institute Limburg (SRAL). During this intensive course, a series of practical workshops and lectures will introduce participants to the preparation of panels, mineral pigments and organic dyestuffs. The participants will experiment with the buildup of paint layers and the use of different binding media, based on the examination of old master paintings. Workshop leaders and lecturers are specialists such as Rene Hoppenbrouwers and Helene Dubois (Limburg Conservation Institute), Renate Woudhuysen-Keller (Hamilton Kerr Institute, Cambridge) and Arie Wallert (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam). The course is intended for post-graduate students, professional art historians and conservation scientists with a special interest in painting techniques.
