Objects Conservator Asian Art Museum of San Francisco The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is searching for an objects conservator to assist in the preparation of the collection for the move of the museum to new facilities. Under the general direction of the Head of Conservation, the Objects Conservator is responsible for performing professional level conservation duties related to the preventive maintenance, examination, and treatment of Asian art objects. The museum's collection of ancient to modern objects is composed of all materials including stone, metal, ceramic, lacquer, ivory and wood. Treatments and all documentation will adhere to the standards of the American Institute for Conservation's Code of Ethics. Work involves knowledge of the history, physical properties, characteristics and general technology of Asian art objects. The applicant should be available from September, 2000 for the 24-month project. The salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications ($38 - 46,000 annually). Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in art conservation from a recognized college or university, OR: Master's Degree in Art History with a Certificate in Conservation from a recognized Conservation Training Program, OR: an equivalent combination of education and experience: AND Two years of verifiable conservation experience beyond education and training required.
