Internship at Hispanic Society of America

Outdoor Sculpture Conservation Internships
Summer 2000

The Hispanic Society of America, a museum in upper Manhattan housing
one of America's richest collections of Spanish and Spanish Colonial
art and manuscripts, is requesting applications from qualified
candidates for internships in outdoor sculpture conservation during
the upcoming summer 2000.

Upon confirmation of pending expected funding, these paid
internships will continue the treatment of the collection of
sculptures by Anna Hyatt Huntington installed at the museum's
Audubon Terrace. Successful candidates will receive field training
in conservation practice relevant to bronze and stone sculptures in
the outdoor environment. Participants will gain experience in
procedures including corrosion removal, cleaning and patination of
bronze and stone cleaning and masonry repair. Reporting and
documentation standards will also be covered. Investigations and
treatments will also be carried out on other objects within the
museum collection.

Current students in objects conservation, sculpture, and historic
preservation are encouraged to apply.
