The March meeting of the ACRL/NE Chapter/Preservation-Conservation
Interest Group will be a review and discussion of treatment options
for deteriorating leather bound books. Kristen St.John of Rutgers
University will report on the causes of leather deterioration and
bring us all up to date on leather dressing. Eric Alstrom,
Dartmouth College Library, will demonstrate the Etherington Japanese
Tissue Hinge repair. Beth Doyle of Harvard University and Heather
Caldwell of MIT will discuss the variety of treatments available.
Participants are encouraged to bring examples of treatments that
have worked well (or failed).

Following a box lunch at the library a tour of the conservation lab,
marking room, and bindery prep area will be given by Carole Dyall,
Collections Conservator and Preservation Officer at the University
of Connecticut. The Homer Babbidge Library has recently been
renovated and a tour of the rest of the building will be available
for those who are interested.
