Conservation Housekeepers
Historic Royal Palaces

Historic Royal Palaces is the organisation responsible for
conserving, maintaining and presenting some of the world's most
famous heritage sites including The Tower of London, Hampton Court
Palace, Kensington Palace State Apartments, Kew Palace and the
Banqueting House, Whitehall. We now need Conservation Housekeepers
to care for and preserve the many priceless artefacts, furniture and
other treasurers these properties contain.

Based at Hampton Court, you will be part of a team of conservation
trained housekeepers that undertake daily cleaning and safeguarding
routines and, once developed, the additional duties of preventive
conservation.

You should have a knowledge of passive conservation in a delicate
museum environment, good manual dexterity, and an ability to work at
heights. Lifting and cleaning work is daily so you must be
reasonably fit, as well as able to work in a close team and deliver
under pressure. You must also be willing to work some evenings and
weekends and be posted to any of the Palace's five sites at short
notice.

We have two opportunities currently available. One is a permanent
appointment for a Conservation Housekeeper to work 30 hours a week,
with a starting salary range of UKP12,700 - UKP14,386 pro rata. In
addition benefits include a contributory pension scheme.

We also have an eight month casual post, during May to December
2000, with a salary of UKP14,386 pro rata. Working 36 hours a week,
you will assist with safeguarding Kensington Palace displays when
the palace undergoes major windows refurbishment, and also carry out
the entire routine work of conservation housekeeping at Kensington
and Hampton Court Palaces.
