The Glenbow requires a Painting Conservator for its collections; the
candidate should also have a working knowledge of object
conservation.  Working in a dynamic team based environment the
candidate will seek innovative and creative ways to make collections
more broadly available to the community and particularly to provide
access to the recently established Community Collection.  This is a
full-time permanent position (37.5 hours per week). There may be
opportunities to do additional contract work through *Glenbow
Enterprises*.

The Painting Conservator*s primary responsibility is treatment, care
and advice pertaining to paintings and other works of art, and a
limited responsibility under the guidance of the objects conservator
for treatment of objects.  In addition, the incumbent ensures that
conservation needs for the collections are integrated into museum
exhibitions, loans, training programmes and public programmes.  All
Conservation personnel respond to public enquiries concerning care
of artifacts.  Conservation is a team based group in which
conservators do particular work in their areas of expertise and
general duties, relating to management and preservation, are shared.

Qualifications include a graduate degree in Conservation (or
equivalent), undergraduate degree and a minimum of five years of
work experience in painting conservation, one or two years in object
conservation.

Salary Range: $33,326 - $42,198 per annum (1999 Union Rates)
