Historical references to paper deterioration

A paper conservator colleague of mine is mounting a small exhibition
in the local archive where he works. I believe the exhibition is
intended to highlight preservation issues and he thought it might be
a nice idea to include some historical references to the
deterioration of paper and/or media used on paper. Can anybody help?
