Audubon glazes

From: Ramona Duncan-Huse <rduncan>

I am interested in knowing about the use of glazes by John J.
Audubon in his printed series The Birds of America. The literature
I have seen does not specifically indicate whether glazes were used
for each subscription set. I am attempting to determine whether a
set I am examining either never had glazes or if glazes that were
applied might have been disturbed by previous treatment. A slide at
the recent Broad Spectrum conference clearly showed the pattern of a
glaze on plate 49 Ruby Throated Hummingbird; the set in our lab,
with only one previous owner, does not exhibit the glaze. Thanks
for any info sent my way.
