Head of Preservation National Library of Scotland Edinburgh (to UKP40,000pa) Scotland's premier library is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced senior professional to manage its preservation activities. The Head of Preservation will lead a staff of 26 who work with all parts of the Library's collections, including printed items, manuscripts, and, increasingly, new media, among them some of the most valuable items in the Library, and irreplaceable parts of Scotland's heritage. He/She will be responsible for determining, reviewing and implementing the Library's preservation strategy, in co-operation with colleagues in the curatorial and technical departments. Applicants must have at least five years' experience, at a senior level, of the management of preservation activities in a library, archive, or other repository. They must be able to provide evidence of having successfully managed people and budgets, and of planning, problem-solving, decision making and project management skills. An academic training would be an advantage, but a sound knowledge of library and archive conservation and preservation techniques is essential.
