The Chicago Area Conservation Group (CACG) announces their February
meeting.

Restoration for Performance or Conservation for Study:
The Changing Role of the Musical Instrument Conservator
The Keyboard Maintenance Workshop,
Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois
Tuesday, February 1, 2000
6 pm

Ken Eschete, head piano technician and Supervisor of Keyboard
Maintenance at Northwestern University welcomes CACG to a
presentation of the changes and developments in musical instrument
conservation. Over the past 25 years, the major functions for the
conservator, including documentation, examination, treatment,
reproduction and research have changed considerably. These changes
have had an impact on the practice of allowing musical instruments
to be played in performance.

A tour of the Keyboard Maintenance Workshop will follow the talk,
featuring the 1796 Broadwood grand piano that is now under
restoration. The consolidation of the wooden pin block using a low
viscosity epoxy will be demonstrated during the tour.
