Stichting Kollektief Restauratieatelier Amsterdam SKRA has urgent vacancies for: Senior paintings conservator (Head of studio) Senior paintings conservator (Theory and research) The SKRA was founded in 1983 as an independent studio for the conservation and restoration of easel paintings (ranging from the 15th to the 21st century). It works mainly for public institutions (ca. 20 museums) in the Netherlands and also undertakes various activities concerning conservation management, research projects and education. The Kollektief consists of a team of seven international conservators as well as a photographer, a documentation administrator and a secretary. It also offers two internships in painting conservation. The foundation is supervised by a Board of Governors. The management team consists of three senior conservators: conservator (directorial organization), conservator (head of studio) and conservator (theory and research). Description of tasks: The senior conservators must have considerable experience and work to high professional standards. He/she: * has knowledge of the latest developments in conservation materials and techniques * can independently carry out complex conservation treatments * can make estimates for minor to very complex projects and write thorough conservation reports * can co-ordinate and organize specific projects such as the treatment of large-scale paintings or painting collections; this includes the overview of working hours and administration * can carry out the condition control of painting collections and, in co-operation with museum staff, set up and instigate plans for conservation treatments * can publish articles about relevant conservation subjects As the senior conservator (head of the studio) (30% of time) the candidate is responsible for studio organization. The tasks are: the overview and planning of the work inside and outside the studio, the practical support of interns and guest employees, ordering materials and tools, planning of incoming and outgoing transport, and taking care of the studio space (such as climate, depot and alarm system). As the senior conservator (theory and research) (15% of time) the candidate is responsible for the quality of the work. The tasks are: the theoretical support of interns and guest employees, initiating work discussions, initiating, supporting and carrying out research, initiating and organizing meetings of the board of advisors, and keeping international contacts with colleges and institutions. An extra requirement is an affinity with scientific research of paintings (especially microscopy). Requirements: * Applicant must be graduated in paintings conservation from a recognised training program, combined with a degree in art history, fine art or science to university level, or have comparable knowledge and experience. * He/she should have extensive work experience from museums and/or institutions similar in organisation to SKRA. * Elaborate knowledge of conservation materials, techniques and developments in the field. * The ability to work independently and as part of a team, have leadership qualities, be able to delegate work, have good social skills and pragmatic and flexible attitude. The salary is dependent on age and experience, with a maximum of Hfl. 5.100,-- gross per calendar month.
