Subject: Positions at British Library
Two Conservators The British Library The British Library is reorganising and relaunching its "Adopt a Book" scheme, whereby the public and other donors raise funds to conserve parts of the library's incomparable collections which could not be treated by government grant-in-aid. The British Library is looking for two conservators to work on high priority material from the library's varied collection. The contracts will initially be for 3 years, based in studios in the new building at St.Pancras, working alongside permanent conservation staff. The postholders will work closely together on a wide range of collection material. A conservation degree or equivalent experience is required, together with demonstrable manual dexterity in conserving printed books and manuscripts and experience in paper conservation, book conservation and binding. These are very practical oriented bench jobs and the ability to work quickly without compromising standards is critical. The capacity to work well with others is essential, as is a good presentational manner, given that one of the roles of the postholders will be to explain their work to existing and future donors. Salary will be in the range of UKP15,930 to UKP28,721 depending on experience, range of skills and ability.
