Individual bar control stretchers

As part of the Painting Specialty Group Catalogue stretcher chapter, 
I am drafting a section on Individual Bar Control Stretchers.  This 
system was developed by Stan Phillips about seven years ago, and 
consists of a fixed inner frame with an outer frame which can be 
keyed out along the length of each side, rather than only at the 
corners.  I would like to hear from conservators who have used this 
stretcher--pros, cons, modifications, etc., and would also like to 
know if any contemporary artists are using them as their first 
choice for stretchers.
