Senior Archival Conservator National Library of New Zealand The National Library of New Zealand requires a Senior Archival Conservator to join the Conservation Section, which is responsible for the preservation and remedial treatment of the Library's collections, including the heritage collections held in the Alexander Turnbull Library. The staff of the Section are responsible for the conservation and treatment of books, prints and drawings, manuscripts, cartographic collections, sound and music recordings, and photographs. The appointee will be responsible for all aspects of the conservation of manuscript and cartographic heritage collection items, the training of curatorial staff in the care and handling of collections, and the identification of collection needs. They will also be responsible for the training and supervision of conservation technicians and will participate in the development and management of the section. The appointee must have: * a recognised formal qualification in conservation with a post graduate qualification in archival conservation such as the Society of Archivists' Certificate in Archive Conservation * a minimum of 5 years practical experience in archival conservation, in a variety of formats and media, including books, maps and manuscripts * an understanding of cultural values and sensitivities; * an ability to organise time and resources effectively and to work independently; * effective written and oral communication; * an ability to work professionally as part of the Conservation Services team; * an ability to provide effective training and supervision in the laboratory. A salary in the range of NZ $45,000 - $48,000 will be offered.
