Conservation Technician NYC Municipal Reference and Research Center Job Description: This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position. Under supervision with some latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, performs professional work in the Archives Conservation Laboratory. Tasks include preparing volumes of nineteenth and twentieth century works for microfilming by patching damaged pages, encapsulation, humidification and flattening of some folded documents, including repairing and reconstructing fold-out maps and charts which have broken into pieces. In some cases removing fold-outs from volumes for separate filming. Loosening bindings in rare cases to enable text to lie flat enough for microfilming. Salary: $15.11/HR. Qualification Requirements: Master's degree in Conservation (preferred) or Baccalaureate degree and one year full-time professional experience in a conservation laboratory, library, museum, archives or similar institution; or, Education and/or experience equivalent to above. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree and professional training in paper and/or book conservation. The New York City Municipal Reference and Research Center has a non tax levy position available for immediate placement. It is the depository for all official reports and studies of New York City departments, commissions and divisions. Our primary clientele are government agencies. We are also open to the public.
