Subject: Collections care equipment
Vicki Cassman and Caroline Sakaguchi-Kunioka at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) are attempting to assemble a collections care equipment kit, for student training and use and also for loan out to local museums. So far, we are looking at purchasing a Psychrometer, hygrothermograph, visible and UV Light Meter, pH Pens, cobalt salt strips, and materials for performing Oddy tests. The museums in the area tend not to have such equipment. A similar program in Arizona is very successful, and we think there is a need here in the Las Vegas area. The equipment must stand up to some use and abuse, but still give reliable readings. The questions we pose are these: 1. Have we forgotten anything? 2. We are alarmed at the differences in price for UV light meters. Is there a decent, reasonably priced UV meter out there? 3. We are also concerned at prices and qualities of hygrothermographs. Which one holds up best? Vicki Cassman *** Conservation DistList Instance 13:22 Distributed: Thursday, September 30, 1999 Message Id: cdl-13-22-016 ***Received on Monday, 27 September, 1999
