Preservation Department, Head Tulane University Library Tulane University Library invites nominations and applications for the Head of the Preservation Department. The position reports to the Assistant University Librarian for Technical Services, supervises 4 paraprofessional staff, and is responsible for managing and leading the preservation program for the general collections at Tulane. Responsibilities: Oversees the daily operation of the Department to ensure that materials move in a timely and cost-effective manner; Supervises commercial and inhouse binding, conservation, and reformatting activities; Hires, trains, and supervises staff; Establishes departmental goals and provides for their evaluation; Coordinates library-wide staff/user preservation education programs; Maintains environmental monitoring program; Maintains disaster plan; Prepares grant proposals for preservation activities; Initiates and administers collections maintenance needs analysis for the general collections; Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS; Knowledge of preservation and conservation practices and techniques as demonstrated through previous relevant experience and/or successful completion of a formal comprehensive program in the preservation of research library materials; 2 years professional experience supervising FTE staff; Excellent oral and written communications skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; Commitment to professional involvement, preferably at the national level; Strong service orientation; Flexibility to manage a variety of tasks with varying time pressures and constantly changing priorities. Preferred: Sufficient knowledge of bibliographic control concepts to direct bibliographic searching for reformatting of materials; Experience with commercial binding contracts; Experience in policy formulation; Familiarity with library automation for bindery operations; Experience with disaster recovery and preparedness; Familiarity with library automation systems; Familiarity with one or more modern European languages.
