Head, Preservation Department University of Pittsburgh University Library System Faculty librarian position to direct and supervise the staff and activities of the Preservation Department. Responsibilities include the In-House Book Repair Program, the Brittle Books Program, Commercial Binding, and Disaster Planning as well as performing conservation and preservation related work as necessary. Develops and manages large scale preservation and access projects, including the use of digital technology. Develops staff training programs in preservation. Explores funding sources and prepares grant proposals. Reports to the Assistant University Librarian of the University Library System. Required: ALA-accredited MLS (or recognized foreign equivalent), minimum two years post-MLS experience in preservation (or related area). Demonstrated ability to plan projects, write reports, and communicate effectively. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with staff, users, and external organizations. Knowledge of library materials preservation techniques, digital technology, and experience in preservation administration. Preferred: Supervisory experience; experience in a research library preservation program. Salary: $30,000 minimum. Comprehensive benefits package.
