The National Archives of Scotland (NAS) has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced archive conservator to join a team of 8 conservators working on the full range of collections held by NAS. This appointment is pensionable and for a 3 year fixed-term with the possibility of extension or permanency. We are seeking an innovative and versatile conservator who can demonstrate a wide knowledge of conservation techniques and general practical experience in the field of archive conservation. Good communication skills including report writing and an ability to work away from the "bench " and individually on specific projects is desirable. You will, along with colleagues report and provide support to the Senior Conservator whilst supervising and guiding other staff. Candidates should have a diploma or degree in book or archive and paper conservation. Candidates invited for interview will be asked to bring a portfolio of recent work.The Conservation Unit is based in the West of Edinburgh but conservation staff have responsibility for collections distributed between all three sites presently occupied by NAS. Starting salary will be in the range of 16,600 - 20,711 pounds sterling with an opportunity to earn further performance related increases up to a total salary of 23,970 pounds sterling. A higher salary may be offered for relevant qualifications, experience and aptitude.
