Subject: Conservation services needed
It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure conservation treatment for the History of Medicine Division (HMD), NLM materials in order to return them to a condition in which they can be used without further damage and assure their preservation under their normal circumstances of use and storage. Services to be performed, at the contractor's facility, are: preparing examination reports and proposals for treatment; paper repair; aqueous and nonaqueous deacidification; rebinding in leather, cloth, paper, vellum and tawed skin; sewing through folds on cords or tapes; repair of boards, covering material and spine; lettering and stamping on spines and labels; encapsulating leaves in Mylar film by means of an ultrasound welder; producing appropriate housings, such as phase boxes, double-tray clamshell boxes and portfolios; and preparing treatment labels. Demonstrated evidence of similar conservation treatment, adequate security, safety and environmental quality and experienced staff are required. The period of performance (base year) will begin on or about September 30, 1999 with an option for one successive one-year period. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Threshold. A Request for Quotation (RFQ) will be issued on or about July 21, 1999. All responsible and responsive sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the NLM.
