Subject: Training program in Argentina
Fulbright Commission-Antorchas Foundation Grants Purpose: Teach a practical course on preventive conservation; supervise up to ten trainees on different material and conservation problems. Visiting instructors should have a good knowledge of their respective conservation fields, possess teaching skills and some experience in working with trainees or interns, as supervisors and evaluators. They should be asked to present an outline of the course they want to teach, as well as a list of their needs for the course (tools, equipment, materials and bibliography). They would report to a local coordinator for all practical purposes: planning, organization, support, travel, living in Buenos Aires, etc. Each instructor would be required to make a formal appraisal and grade students taking his/her course and submit a final report explaining the result of the work and making recommendations. Possible courses -------- ------- On the preventive conservation and conservation treatments of: * Works of art on paper (water-colours, prints, drawings, etc.) * Furniture * Ceramic, glass and porcelain objects * Metal objects * Archaeological and ethnographic objects * Textiles * Books, pamphlets and bounded archival materials * General archival materials (documents, maps, architectural drawings). * Sculpture and monuments * Historical architecture The above list is only given as an indication. All proposals would be considered and a coherent curriculum would be put together combining proposals. Other subjects of interest for courses might be: * Museum collection administration (documentation, access to collections, location of collections in storage, conservation assessments, holdings maintenance). * Exhibition lighting (light fundaments, lighting assessments, evaluation of lighting damage in different types of objects, planning for adequate lighting for exhibitions and conservation of the pieces, general lighting, cases lighting, different light sources, optical fibre). * Conservation administration for museums or libraries and archival institutions. Collection assessment and evaluation, data interpretation, decision making, preservation policies. * Holdings maintenance, books and archival reformatting processes, (collections evaluation, decision making, microfilming, digitization, conservation photocopying).
