Book repair

I am wanting some advise on the best way to repair a loose paper
book cover. The damage is mainly on the area of the spine.  I want
to  know the best way support this area, leaving it strong enough
and Flexible enough to use.  Can anyone recommend an article or book
that deals with this problem.
