Subject: PARS Reformatting Discussion Group
Digilog? Anatal? Hybrid Systems and the Preservation of Research Materials Have you been waking up at night wondering if you should have made analog copies of those digitized research material files? If so, and you plan on being in New Orleans for the ALA Annual Meeting, you are welcome to attend the ALCTS/PARS Reformatting Discussion Group session on Sunday, June 27th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Omni Royal's Central Salon. Steve Chapman (Harvard) will be on hand to discuss the draft version of "Digital Imaging and Preservation Microfilm: The Future of the Hybrid Approach for the Preservation of Brittle Books," <URL:http://www.clir.org/programs/cpa/hybridintro.html>. Meg Bellinger (Preservation Resources) and Janet Gertz (Columbia), who submitted responses to the draft to CLIR, will be participating in the discussion. Kodak's Michael Maxwell will also be joining the group and will use the second half of the session to discuss Kodak's current views on hybrid system and hybrid system products. There is considerable interest in the library and archive preservation community regarding 35mm microfilm applications in hybrid systems, as well as in the determination of text and image quality in any system that produces microfilm from digitized files.
