Buttons

Recently we were given about two hundred buttons. They range in age
from the early 1970s to the present. All have plastic covers over a
printed paper slogan. Many of these buttons, pins? have a rustproof
metal back. Some of the metal backs are beginning to rust.  What
steps should be taken for this problem?
