Scholarships of $750 are available for the Archaeological &
Ethnographic and the Natural Sciences Core Curricula courses offered
at the Campbell Center July 14 - 28, 1999.

The Archaeological and Ethnographic Core Curriculum is designed for
curatorial staff of archaeological and ethnographic museums, or
historical and natural history museums with substantial holdings of
archaeological or ethnographic materials. The course is intended to
provide an understanding of the nature of materials and the causes
and effects of deterioration which will enable participants to make
informed decisions regarding the care of collections in their
institutions. The program is based on the curriculum developed by
the Bay Foundation/NIC pilot projects, and has been offered by the
Center since 1994. Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment
for the Humanities for continued support of the collections care
program, scholarships for 50% of the course fee will continue to be
available in 1999.

The Natural Sciences Core Curriculum is designed for curatorial and
collections management staff of small to mid-size natural science
museums, or historical museums with substantial holdings of natural
history collections. The course deals with the care of zoological,
botanical, and geological specimens, and is intended to provide an
understanding of the nature of materials, and the effects of
environmental factors on those materials as a foundation which will
enable participants to make informed decisions regarding collections
care problems of their own institutions. The program is based on the
curriculum developed by the Bay Foundation/NIC pilot projects. Bay
Foundation scholarships for 50% of the course fee are be available
for the Natural Sciences Core Curriculum.

The registration deadline for these courses is June 1, 1999. For
