Subject: Library Collections Conservation Discussion Group meeting
Please note the time and day for this year's LCCDG meeting at AIC in ST. Louis, we hope to see you there: Paper And Page Mending The Realities Of Context The Library Collections Conservation Discussion Group Thursday, 10 June 1999 7-9 p.m. What factors influence and guide our selection of materials for page and paper repairs of general collections library materials? Does an institution exist that can afford to use Japanese paper and paste on all their materials? Is there an institution that exists that wants to? Can we afford not too? Is anyone happy with the current heat set tissues offered? Are they any better than or equivalent to archival tape? What are our treatment options really and what is our comfort level with them? What factors prevent us from achieving what we think is best for our collections? We will seek in small discussion groups to grapple with these issues by sharing our experiences and reevaluating our repair strategies. The session will include a brief overview of the composition and history of pressure sensitive tapes by Elissa OLoughlin of the National Archives. Ms. OLoughlin has done extensive research and taught widely on the subject and we are very pleased to have her join us as instructor and consultant for the session.
