Subject: Forum on staff training
Handling the Past A day to learn about and discuss training methods for non-specialists 29 June 1999 11 am-4:30 pm The Public Record Office is holding a one day forum for a limited number of participants to discuss the issues relating to training staff in the proper handling and care of archival and library material. It will be directed in particular to the training of non-specialist staff who, nevertheless, carry much of the responsibility for good practice within archives and libraries. Some organisations have developed programmes specially adapted to these staff who frequently respond very positively to such training; come and learn some tips, pick up some good ideas and contribute your own views. Three case studies will be given in the morning and the afternoon will be devoted to discussion on various ways of approaching this very common, but often overlooked problem. The final session will draw together ideas for participants to adapt to their own circumstances and point the way towards further co-operative work. The forum will be held at the Public Record Office, where coffee will be available from 10.30. Lunch will be provided and afternoon tea before the final session. The fee for the day is UKP30 which is payable on registration. Those wishing to participate should complete the following form and return it before 11 June 1999 to: Sue Seber Preservation Services Public Record Office Kew, Richmond Surrey, TW9 4DU, UK +44 181-876-3444 ext. 2440 Fax: +44 181-392-5254; <preservation [at] pro__gov__uk> Please register me for Handling the Past on 29 June 1999.
