Director of Field Services The Upper Midwest Conservation Association Minneapolis, Minnesota The Upper Midwest Conservation Association (UMCA), located at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, is looking for a conservator to head up its Field Services Department. This five-year old program is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities through September 2001 in order to meet the region's needs for preservation information, consultation and collections training. The person in this position will develop and run collections care workshops and training programs in a five state region (Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa); continue the regular publication of the newsletter/technical bulletin; provide on-site surveys/assessments of the preservation needs of museums and other material culture repositories; develop and maintain a data base of all collecting institutions in the region; and provide workshops, lectures, seminars, reference materials and disaster assistance. The Director of Field Services will supervise the Coordinator of Field Services. Applicants should have a degree in conservation from a recognized training program, have demonstrated experience in education, training or outreach, have practical knowledge of preventative conservation practices, and be an effective speaker and practiced writer. General computer skills are a necessary requirement. Additionally, the applicant should have excellent organizational and communication skills.
