Conservation Scientist The British Museum The Department of Conservation is aiming to recruit a Band 5 Scientist to work within the Conservation Research Group. The Conservation Research Group is a small group of scientists working within the Department of Conservation at the British Museum. Purpose of the job: To conduct research related to the conservation and preservation of the British Museum collections; to provide scientific services to the Department of Conservation and the Museum within own area of expertise; and to make available the results of research and to provide assistance to the wider Conservation and museum community through activities organised by the Department of Conservation and conservation professional bodies and by lecturing and publication. The post has through grading to Band 4 Qualifications and experience: The successful candidate will have a good degree (minimum 2:1) in a chemistry or polymer related subject and five years of experience, or a PhD in a chemistry, polymer, or conservation research subject. They will be willing to build up an expertise in paper and unusual organic materials, working closely with existing members of the team; to work closely with conservation staff on individual or groups of objects* and to develop an in-depth knowledge of the materials used in conservation. They will be expected to lecture, publish and attend conferences related to their work. Salary: The post is graded as Band 5 and the salary will be in the region of UK UKP14,150-UKP26,750 depending on qualifications and experience.
