The Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) has been selected as a
host organization for the Federal Public Sector Youth Internship
Program. The program has been established to enhance youth
employability in Canada.

CCI is receiving applications for five paid 12-month conservation
internships; one in the Fine Arts (Paintings) laboratory, one in the
Objects laboratory, and one in the Archaeology laboratory. These
internships are available to recent graduates of conservation
programs who have been unable to obtain permanent employment in the
field of conservation.

There are two other internships. The Adhesives Testing laboratory
needs a graduate with a science or engineering degree in chemistry,
who will assist in our adhesives testing program. The Conservation
Process and Materials Research internship, requires a well motivated
secondary school graduate, with a science focus and aptitude to
assist in short projects in the CPMR lab, including the development
of a reference library of infrared spectra of known plastics and
textiles, as well as the preparation of didactic sample kits for our
training activities. Again, all positions are available to people
who have not been able to obtain permanent employment in the field
of conservation. Applications should be received by March 31, 1999.
The interns must be hired by April 30, 1999 and must begin their
placements no later than August 31, 1999.
