Course Leader: Richard Harris, Research Director
at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum; runs the MSc course
in Conservation of Timber Buildings for Bournemouth University;
specialist author on the construction and repair of timber
framing.

Principal Tutor: Gerard Lynch, internationally
acknowledged leader in the field of brickwork and its historical
conservation, particularly for his outstanding range of practical
and technical skills and his use of traditional methods and
materials; author of Gauged Brickwork and Brickwork: History,
Technology and Practice

An intensive study of the causes of failure and decay, analysis
of inappropriate repair materials and techniques, and assessment
of appropriate methods of repair; includes gauged brickwork.
Practical sessions include cutting out bricks, removing defective
pointing, undertaking stitch repairs and reinforcement, preparing
joints for repointing, choosing and preparing appropriate mortar
mixes, practising pointing techniques; cleaning brickwork.
