Subject: Call for papers--artificial intelligence and cultural heritage
Workshop on Artificial Intelligence & Cultural Heritage Bologna, 14 September 99 (provisional date) Universita di Bologna Facolta di Ingegneria Viale Risorgimento, 2 Bologna <URL:http://www.deis.unibo.it/Events/AIIA99/workshop_benieng.html> Call for Abstracts The idea of bringing together the cultural heritage and artificial intelligence stems from two main factors. On the one hand, from the need to own innovative tools that would lead to a significant technological progress. On the other, from the cultural heritage's chief purpose, which is to display and disseminate culture. Applying computer and telecommunications technologies to museums, archives, libraries and archaeological parks, where the existing heritage is stored and preserved, is changing the way we produce and interact with culture. The workshop will analyze how artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies can contribute in this context and to make direct comparisons of the ideas and results achieved. The primary aim is to bring together academic and research bodies, industries and companies working on new technologies in the Cultural Heritage sector, in order to encourage any interaction and affiliation among participants. Please present papers on methods or applications that highlight actual uses and applicability of the methods and tools of Artificial Intelligence within the field of the Cultural and Library Heritage. Any papers on preliminary studies that illustrate interesting research orientations are welcome.
