The British Museum The Department of Conservation Applications are invited for these full time posts within the Department of Conservation. These are exciting opportunities to join the team of conservators who care for archaeological, historical and ethnographical objects within the Museum*s collections. Senior Conservator (Band 5/6) Ceramics, Glass and Metals Section Ref 7/99 Salary UKP14,150- UKP26,750 (inclusive) (according to qualifications and experience) You will specialise in the conservation of ceramics and glass artifacts. Duties will include: the condition assessment and conservation of valuable and fragile objects; provision of advice on conservation treatment and environmental conditions for artifacts; management of conservation projects. You should be able to work with minimal supervision. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must have a recognised qualification in Conservation and post graduate experience in the conservation of glass and a wide range of ceramic types. A knowledge of metals conservation is also desirable. 3 X Conservator Posts (Band6) Ceramics Glass and Metals Section Ref 8/99 Salary UKP11,950 - UKP23,150 (inclusive) (according to qualification and experience) You will specialise primarily in the conservation of ceramics and glass but you will also work on metal artifacts. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must have a recognised qualification in Conservation and have some practical experience of conserving ceramics and glass artifacts; a knowledge of metals conservation is also desirable. On occasions, you may be required to assist with work in the Stone, Wall paintings and Mosaics Section. Some knowledge in this aspect of conservation is desirable but not essential. Applications from recent graduates will also be considered. 1 X Conservator Post (Band 6) Organic Artifacts Section Ref 9/99 Salary UKP11,950 - UKP23,150 (inclusive) (According to qualification and experience) You will specialize in the conservation of artefacts from ethnographic, archaeological and historical sources, covering a wide range of organic materials, including wood, textiles, and leather. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must have a recognised qualification in Conservation and have practical experience in the treatment of organic artefacts. Experience with polychromy or textiles is particularly desirable.
