National Museums of Scotland, Paper and Textile Conservation. Fixed term contract - paper conservator The National Museums of Scotland are seeking a qualified and experienced conservator to take responsibility for the conservation and preparation of a range of paper artefacts for displays in the new Museum Square project of the Scottish United Services Museum (Scotland's National Museum of Military History) within Edinburgh Castle. The museum is due to open by April 2000 and includes paper artefacts in most of the new galleries. The post is within the Textile and Paper Conservation section of the Department of Conservation and Analytical Research, and will be based in studios in the Royal Museum in Chambers Street, Edinburgh, working alongside a paper conservator employed by the Scottish Museums Council. Applicants should have a degree or equivalent academic qualification followed by a recognised qualification in paper conservation and at least 2-3 years relevant experience. They must have a high level of practical skill, be well organised and be able to work effectively and efficiently without supervision. The post is for an initial period of 8 months, starting in April 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter with the possibility of extension to 1 year. The salary for the post will be up to UKP14,670 and will depend upon qualifications and experience.
