Assistant Conservator Getty Research Institute The Research Library's division of Collection Management at the Getty Research Institute for the History of Art and the Humanities in Los Angeles, CA, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Conservator in its Conservation Lab. Reports to Research Library's Head of Conservation. Duties: Performs and documents complex conservation treatments on materials including rare books and photographs, objects and archival materials. Evaluates materials to determine conservation required to maintain integrity of materials and to meet curatorial needs. Provides specialized expertise in photographic conservation. Assists the Head of Conservation with Section administration and training and with the management of the conservation components of GRI exhibitions. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in chemistry, natural science, art history, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Coursework in photography, photographic history and/or book and paper conservation preferred. Reading knowledge of at least one Western European language preferred. 3-4 years experience performing conservation treatments on photographs and books required. Familiarity with on-line databases preferred. Skill in operating personal computer and conservation lab equipment required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent manual dexterity; administrative skills, strong interpersonal skills required. Salary range starts at $33,800. Excellent benefits.
