The second annual SERCA (Southeast Regional Conservation Association) meeting will be held on March 19-20, 1999, in Atlanta, Georgia. A business discussion forum focusing on SERCA by-laws is planned for Friday afternoon from 3:30-5:30pm at the Michael C. Carlos Museum, Emory University. This discussion will be followed by a reception at the Carlos Museum from 6-8pm. Saturday's sessions will be held at the Woodruff Arts Center, adjacent to the High Museum. Registration will begin at 8:30am. Opening remarks begin at 9:00am, followed by speakers Jane Sugarman, Mark Lewis, and Shelley Paine. SERCA's annual business meeting will take place during a box lunch on Saturday. Our afternoon session will begin at 1:15 and feature Scott Thomaston, Chemical Safety Officer, Environmental Health and Safety Office, Emory University School of Medicine. He will offer insight into how conservators can collaborate with emergency personnel to best respond to hazardous materials in an emergency. He will consider hazardous materials situated in conservation labs, as well as those that may be found in collections. The afternoon session will conclude at 4:00pm. Meeting registration is $20 which includes lunch. (Please indicate choice of chicken or vegetarian.) SERCA membership dues for 1999 are also $20.
