Description and Authority Background: Preservation Benchmark Study Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) has had a statewide preservation program in existence since 1988. During the past decade a number of efforts have been made to determine not only the extent, on a statewide basis, of the preservation needs of libraries, archives, historical societies, and other repositories (Preservation Needs Assessment Survey) but also the preservation needs of specific institutions' holdings (Critical Collections Questionnaire). This Procurement The purpose of this procurement is to hire a consultant to synthesize, summarize and quantify the need for preservation work within Massachusetts libraries and repositories, based on existing documentation, with particular emphasis on public libraries. The person(s) hired to carry out this project will need to perform a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the preservation needs of collections as documented in a number of studies and documents produced by the Board of Library Commissioners during the past decade and listed at the Web site mentioned above.
