Red organic pigments

Hallo, we are Fiammetta and Livia, two Italian students attending
"Istituto Centrale per il Restauro" of Rome
    <URL:http://www.beniculturali.it/icr/>.

We're engaged in research about red organic pigments used in
painting and dyeing, from antiquity to the XVII century. We're
reading the ancient Manuscripts and treatises, looking for
recipes of red lakes, because we would produce some old
pigments, for testing their decay. We've met with many
difficulties looking for the raw materials, like
Cochineals(coccus cacti), Kermes (coccus ilicis), brasil wood...

We'll be thankful to all yours if you give us some information
about these materials, about their decay and also (and
especially) about your restauration experiences on red lakes.
    Thank you very much,

    Livia Marini & Fiammetta Jahier
