Online courses in preservation

From: Paul Wilson <p.wilson>
Date: Tuesday, February 2, 1999
The School of Information, Library and Archive Studies at the
University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia is about to
commence its third year of Internet classes. Two preservation
courses are offered for either academic credit or for continuing
education. They are:

Preservation Management in Libraries and Archives (two
offerings: March - June, 1999 and late July - November, 1999)

Preservation and Conservation of Audiovisual Materials (one
offering: late July - November, 1999)

Each course has either 13 or 14 weekly modules which students
complete during the semester. In total, each course represents the
equivalent of 42 hours of face-to-face teaching.

Students who undertake the course for continuing education purposes
work through the coursework and participate in all activities such
as online discussion and tutorial exercises, but they do not
undertake formal assessment. On successful completion, continuing
education students receive a certificate of participation from the
University of NSW. The tuition fee for continuing education
enrolment is $A1000. At the current exchange rate this represents
$US635.
