Subject: Online courses in preservation
The School of Information, Library and Archive Studies at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia is about to commence its third year of Internet classes. Two preservation courses are offered for either academic credit or for continuing education. They are: Preservation Management in Libraries and Archives (two offerings: March - June, 1999 and late July - November, 1999) Preservation and Conservation of Audiovisual Materials (one offering: late July - November, 1999) Each course has either 13 or 14 weekly modules which students complete during the semester. In total, each course represents the equivalent of 42 hours of face-to-face teaching. Students who undertake the course for continuing education purposes work through the coursework and participate in all activities such as online discussion and tutorial exercises, but they do not undertake formal assessment. On successful completion, continuing education students receive a certificate of participation from the University of NSW. The tuition fee for continuing education enrolment is $A1000. At the current exchange rate this represents $US635.
