Subject: Globe
Our library has received the donation of a globe that needs cleaning and repair. It is a 12-inch Cartocraft globe made in 1924 by the Denoyer-Geppert Company, Chicago. The base is missing, but the brass or copper ruled metal piece surrounding the globe is intact. The surface of the globe is soiled with what appears to be oily dirt common to objects left uncleaned for long periods of time in some homes. Any suggestions for cleaning the globe without damaging the surface which appears to be paper-based?
