Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery AIC Annual Meeting June 1-7, 1998 Arlington, Virginia The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) will host its 26th Annual Meeting in the greater Washington, DC metro area June 1-7, 1998 with the general theme "Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery." Lynne Nicholas, author of The Rape of Europa, will kick off the program as this year's Keynote Speaker. Workshops and presentations by international disaster management experts and conservators will be featured during two day-long sessions on Preparedness and Response. Sessions conducted by AIC specialty and subgroups--Architecture, Book and Paper, Objects, Paintings, Photographic Materials, Research and Technical Studies, Textiles, Wooden Artifacts, and Conservators in Private Practice--will continue with the theme of Recovery during the remainder of the week. Conservation suppliers will be available to answer questions about their products and services in the Exhibit Hall, June 3-6. Any individual or institution with an interest in preserving artistic and cultural property and learning how to prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies is encouraged to attend.
