The V&A contains substantial collections of books primarily in the
National Art Library, but also from many other parts of the Museum's
collections for example Prints Drawings and Paintings Collection or
the Theatre Museum.

The Museum is seeking a book conservator to carry out practical
conservation on a wide range of books and book-related objects,
including large scale projects.  Much of the work will be related to
exhibitions, preparing books for loans, displays, gallery rotations
and travelling exhibitions. This involves technical assessment,
conservation, designing mounts and liaising with many different
sections of the museum. The post also encompasses the conservation
of books identified as high priority and running preventive book
conservation schemes, such as a phase-boxing programme.

The post is in the Paper and Book Group of the Conservation
Department, based in new studios which have excellent facilities.
The role performed constitutes a key area of conservation and
preservation in an area of high need.

To be considered the candidate must possess a minimum of five years'
experience, preferably including a recognised book conservation
qualification, and proven practical ability.
