Fredrix Stretcher Strips

Does anyone know why the Fredrix Re-Inforced Stretcher Strips now
have a large "scoop" edge, with an appearance more like a picture
frame moulding than a stretcher bar?  The raised area is almost a
full inch above the flat plane of the stretcher strip.  I am not a
paintings conservator and would like to know if the company talked
with paintings conservators before re-vamping the stretchers.
