Subject: Plastic enclosures
I am forwarding the message below which came from the Archives list in case any of you can help. I am trying to find references concerning the advisability of using plastic wallets for long-term records storage. I am aware that it is generally a bad thing to do (migration of print, fosters humidity, not-very-inert material, etc.) but would welcome *specific, published* information on a) how long one can use a plastic folder before it becomes a problem and b) the effect such a folder has on paper records, especially those printed using a laser printer. And perhaps c) what effect a less-than-ideal environment would have on records in a plastic folder. I have consulted the Conservation OnLine (CoOL) web site with no success. Thanks in advance for any help, Sarah J. A.
