Revised Microfilm Policy for the National Library of Australia The National Library of Australia NLA has recently revised its microfilming policy as a part of its preventive preservation program for library materials. The revised policy is available on the Internet at the following address: <URL:http://www.nla.gov.au/policy/mfmpol.html> The policy document covers the following microfilming aspects: * the purpose of the preservation microfilming policy * selection of material for microfilming; Australian material, Manuscripts, Maps, Newspapers and Overseas material * cataloguing * original filming to service client requests * cooperative projects * standards * copyright * copies generated * additional copies * storage of masters * shrinkwrapping hard copy material once filmed * management of microform collections In association with the policy the Library has also prepared a client information sheet titled , WHY USE MICROFORMS covering the following issues: * Why should I use microforms? * How do I know when a microform is available? * How can I access the microform collection? * How can I access microforms after hours The library has also prepared appropriate working procedures for ensuring application of the policy.
