Regarding Laura Reutter's <lreutter<-a t->iquest< . >net> request
(Conservation DistList, Thursday, October 23, 1997) for information
on treatment of a dugout canoe:

Laura, I would recommend first that you contact the Indiana State
Historic Preservation Office for any information they might have. I
don't know whether they have any underwater specialists, but you can
contact:

    Dr. James R. Jones III
    State Archaeologist
    Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology
    402 West Washington Street, Rm W274
    Indianapolis IN 46204
    317-232-1646
    Fax: 317-232-0693

Also, as I was cruising around, I came across an interesting web
site in Denmark on the treatment of waterlogged wood. The Danes are
experts on this technique. Go visit

You might also want to visit our (NCSHPO) archaeology home page at
<URL:http://www.arch.dcr.state.nc.us/> There are lots of good links
to start out with. Good luck.
