If you are looking for mount/support ideas; you might consider
looking at an article by Andrea Bowes, titled "Storing Sioux-style
Headdresses". It was published in the Alberta Museums Review,
Spring/Summer 1992 (V. 18, Issue 1), produced by the Alberta Museums
Association. The article gives directions, diagrams and photos of a
type of custom made ethafoam and plexi mount that is suitable for
both storage and display conditions.

It might not suit your situation, but it certainly can't hurt to
give you ideas.
